TeslaUnread provides unread counts for SMS, Missed calls and Gmail to WidgetLocker 2.2.5 or Nova Launcher Prime 1.1.3.
Enable TeslaUnread in Nova Launcher or WidgetLocker Settings > Unread Counts.
